FAQ
What is an Adult Family Home (AFH)?
An Adult Family Home (AFH) is a licensed residential care home located in a regular house setting. It offers housing, meals, and personalized assistance to a small group of adults—typically between two to six residents—who may need help with daily living activities. Unlike larger institutions, AFHs provide a warm, homelike environment with individualized care.
How is an Adult Family Home different from an Assisted Living Facility?
Assisted Living Facilities are usually larger settings serving many residents, best suited for those who are largely independent but may need occasional support. In contrast, an AFH offers a more intimate, hands-on approach to care with a smaller caregiver-to-resident ratio, allowing for more personalized attention and a family-like environment.
What types of care do you provide?
We provide comprehensive, compassionate care including:
- Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs): dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, and mobility
- Medication management
- Support for dementia, Alzheimer’s, and cognitive impairment
- Care for chronic medical conditions and age-related decline
- End-of-life/hospice care
- Stroke recovery support
Do you accept residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s?
Yes. We accept residents with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and cognitive impairments. Our trained caregivers understand the challenges and provide respectful, individualized support.
Is there a nurse on staff?
Yes. The provider is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), who oversees care and supports our caregiving team.
What are your staffing levels?
We maintain a high standard of staffing, including:
- Two licensed caregivers during the day
- One alert night caregiver
- A live-in RN provider
This ensures a 3:1 resident-to-caregiver ratio, enabling meaningful one-on-one care, companionship, and personalized support that’s not possible in larger facilities.
What happens during the night?
We have an alert night staff on-site at all times. The night caregiver is alert, engaged, and ready to attend to any resident’s needs—from medication assistance to companionship or mobility support—throughout the night.
What kind of food do you serve?
Food is one of our greatest priorities. We cook fresh meals daily from scratch using quality vegetables, fruits, meats, and seafood. Groceries are purchased weekly to ensure freshness.
- Meals are typically served at 8 AM, 12 PM, and 6 PM
- Snacks and desserts are available at all times
